Abstrakt: Drawing on data derived from observed and recorded actual operations, the study applies Conversation Analysis and aspects of Clark's Theory of Language to the investigation of the interrelation between communication, work and technology in the domain of air traffic control (ATC). In particular, the research seeks to identify a sequence of talk which enables the successful transaction of clearances and instructions, tasks which are fundamental to the principal aim of ATC, namely the provision of safe and expeditious flows of air traffic.
